S L U Arts & Commerce College in Ellis Bridge is a co-educational Commerce Colleges in Ahmedabad. Shree Lalshankar Umiyashankar Arts and Harivadan and Padmaben Thakore Commerce College (S L U) for Women was established in the year 1920 by Gujarat Stree Kelavani Mandal with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhiji. The college was started with few students, today, as many as 1500 students take a variety of courses from the college every year and have ample opportunity to develop their potential. The educational institute is one of the oldest women’s colleges of Gujarat and the oldest women’s college of Ahmedabad.
The college has an illustrious history and a vibrant pulsating present. It stands witness to the efforts of social reformers and visionaries who dreams of expanding the horizons of women through higher education. The educational institute is a grant-in-aid college affiliated to the Gujarat University. The college also gives importance to cultural activities, sports, N.C.C. and N.S.S. The college is offering BA and B.Com degrees and added courses in a variety of subjects of Arts, Home Science and Commerce stream to girls through the Gujarati and English medium.
